How far in advanced should I make reservations for a hotel in New York City for early November?
January 22, 2009 - I'm trying to plan my party and I'll need the hotel for the weekend of Nov. 7th to 9th, Do you think this is considered holiday? What is the latest I should make a reservation? What's the earliest (if any)?
By party, I don't mean a hall (if anyone thinks that), I mean I need a room for me and a few friends.
And I'm also thinking about staying at the Hilton or something of that nature.
are u sure??? i checked the calendar on my computer and the calendar online and it says the 7th is a friday and the 9th is sunday... this is wht i checked

Nov 7 to 9 of 2008 is not a weekend. Nov 7 is Monday, Nov 8 is election day (you know, that stuff with all the noise about Obama/Clinton/McCain/Huckabee), and Nov 9 is a Wednesday. The Hilton and other large hotels in its class generally need reservations made 3-4 months ahead, but you can book now if you wish. Just check what days, since you seem a bit confused.
I'm not sure what their problem is, but Nov 7th is a Friday and the 9th a Sunday. I checked 4 calendars to make sure I wasn't crazy. Anyway, for some reason (maybe Veteran's Day) the hotel rates tend to skyrocket the weekend of Veteran's Day. We tried to make reservations last year and the cheapest hotel was $350 (even a hostel was $250). I looked at hotels.com and it looks like they will charge you upwards of $450 if you book now. It still kind of looks like it is because of that holiday weekend, though, as the prices were high just before and after that date, but were not as far out as August 2008. It would be easier to wait until within 3 months of your arrival, and then keep checking over the course of a few weeks. Just don't expect the prices to come down for that weekend. Like I said, even weekends such as during the US Open or even Labor Day don't tend to be as much as they are on that weekend for whatever reason. You can get a decent room for around $200 per night most weekends.
Try making them 1 month in advance. Also, Nov 7th to 9th is not a weekend. Those days fall in the week. Nov 8th is Election day, everywhere except public schools are open for business on that day. You want to consider the weekend of Nov 4th to 6th to reserve your party. Good luck
